SAINT MOTEL UNVEIL Video and Kickoff Tour Feb 8

Los Angeles-based indie pop quartet Saint Motel are pleased to unveil the video for “At Least I Have Nothing” – the powerful and anthemic single off their recently released first vinyl, 7″1.  The track, which premiered on Rolling Stone late last year, has received over 2000 hearts on the Hype Machine.

“The video is a combination of 16mm, Super 8, Flip-Cam, Video, Cell Phone, and Still Photography that we’ve accumulated throughout the years,” says front man AJ Jackson, “with ‘At Least I Have Nothing’ we saw an opportunity to do a more introspective video. Rather than a big production with high concepts we wanted to do something small that was a mixture of sadness, optimism, and intense nostalgia. We purposely left out performance and typical “band” type footage to hopefully present a different side of Saint Motel. After we filtered that stuff out we ended up with a lot of weird and rated R content that probably never would have seen the light of day otherwise.”

The video comes off the heels of the announcement of an extensive North American tour, which kicks off in San Diego on February 8th culminating with several performances at SXSW. As recently announced, the band will also be performing at “Heartbreaker’s Hideaway” presented by 89.9 KCRW this Valentine’s Day, February 14th. The hometown gig, which will take place in downtown Los Angeles at the historic Belasco Theater ballroom, promises a sexy, swanky burlesque and music filled evening. Tickets for the event are available here and are sure to go fast. See below for a full list of tour dates.

With sophisticated savvy and singularity, the Los Angeles quartet Saint Motel has built a formidable reputation for itself on the back of inventive indie pop and wildly fun live shows. Mixing blistering pep with unique flair and a knack for rousing rhythms, Saint Motel’s aural catharsis is pure bliss with a twist of cynical humor.

Once pulled in by the pulsating and joyous melodies, delight can be found in the surprisingly avant-garde lyrical subject matter. Stories reveal themselves through thematic twists and turns with a narrative voice both subversive and sincere. We find our contemporary hero assessing the world through a lens of poetic contrasts — running down the line of his modern concerns and realizing that a mangled face can be beautiful, that honest feedback can be as lethal as any weapon, and that one might be better off when he has nothing at all. With such honest motifs strung together by tongue-in-cheek notions, delivered with such charm, the band’s intentions are often left open to interpretation. And so, what might be easily perceived as sexy with one listen, with another might seem mean-spirited or flatly perverse. That is the flair of Saint Motel’s rapturous pop and the graceful dichotomy of its existence.
